Rudi is a five-year-old Staffordshire cross with a beautiful coat and big brown eyes. He has a gentle, loving nature that you cannot help fall in love with! He can be avoidant of strangers to start with but builds relationships quickly. He loves his carers, he is very affectionate with them, he enjoys fuss and snuggles. Rudi is very clever and loves to learn. He thrives when being trained. It is fun and to teach him new things or refresh what he already knows (sit, paw and down to name just a few of his tricks!). Rudi enjoys toy play; he can resource guard and will occasionally go off and bury his toys for safe keeping, but he is great at swap games (throw one-drop one) and will take treats. Rudi enjoys fun agility here at the centre. Rudi is keen to jump straight in the car and he travels well. He will need nice quiet walks in rural areas where he does not have to worry about noise; he is worried by traffic noise, building site noise, quarry works etc. Rudi has been trained to wear a muzzle when out on his walks. He is super-comfortable wearing his muzzle, as the positive, reward-based approach we have taken with this training means he sees this as no different from having his harness and lead put on. Rudi is slowly and safely building up interactions with other dogs, he is currently working towards walking alongside other dogs who are happy to ignore him and not want any interaction.
Rudi needs a nice, quiet, rural location with very limited noise. He will need an adult-only home and for him to be the only pet. Rudi is a sensitive boy who enjoys routine, so he will need adopters who will understand that the transition from kennels to a home will likely be a challenge for both his adopters and for Rudi himself. Rudi can find new environments and situations overwhelming and constantly looks to his carers for reassurance. He will require slow and gradual exposure to his new home, with multiple visits required for him to feel safe and comfortable before adoption. There will be a commitment needed from any potential adopter to visit Rudi at the centre several times before we start bringing him out to you and we ask that you ideally live within an hour of the centre for us to accommodate this. It is a requirement that Rudi is kept on his lead and wears his muzzle when out in public, due to his fear of other dogs. He would love a fully enclosed garden to run around in and or regular access to a large secure field. Adopters will need to be clued up and in tune with Rudi's body-language so they can reassure him and help him through everyday life as he is a big worrier.
DUE TO CURRENT RESTRICTIONS, RUDI CAN'T GO TO HIS FOREVER HOME JUST YET, BUT YOU CAN CONTACT THE REHOMING CENTRE TO REGISTER YOUR INTEREST.
